The Veterinary Practice Act 2026 (opens in new tab) will be implemented in phases starting with the formation of the Veterinary Council. Existing veterinarians will be transitioned to the new registration framework in 2027. Until the registration framework commences, the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks will continue to license veterinarians and handle complaints.

SVC will handle complaints and disciplinary matters involving registered veterinarians once the registration framework is in effect. Further information will be published on the SVC website when available.
